Nothing is impossible if you set your mind(用心) to it. My name is Jessica. I come from Cape Town, South Africa. Ten years ago, I went to a middle school in the USA because my family moved to California. I was not a smart student and I was very quiet. My classmates never wanted to work with me when we had group work. They thought I wasn’t helpful. I lost my confidence too. Every time I was in listening class, I always copied my friend’s papers because I couldn’t understand what I was listening to.
I tried my best to improve my English by reading a lot of English books and talking with my classmates in English, but it didn’t work well. I felt so depressed about my English. Some of my classmates often laughed at me. It really hurt me. I thought that I wasn’t able to study English well in school.
After finishing middle school, I tried to get a job, but it was very hard for me because of my poor English. I kept trying and trying. I finally got a job as a salesgirl in a department store. Today my spoken English has improved a lot and I am the manager (经理) of a company.
